Primitive

The Secret of Primitive Accumulation is a bloodstained covenant, the oldest arrangement between freedom and bondage. It teaches us how two apparently opposite forces are in fact complementary and interdependent in the natural world. How they give rise to each other like hot and cold, like money and labor.

Once, the land that lay under common sky was seized at dawn, parceled off, and marked for profit.

“In letters of blood and fire”, this confiscation by the few will unmoor the many from soil and kin, have them drifting across the map with no claim other than the hunger. Petitioning the engines for use. Cast into circuit among creatures of glass and wire, statistical spells, predictive analytics.

These are our ancestors.

The accumulation is called primitive because it predates the new world. It is a secret because the seizure of the commons operates by means of a liberation – a revolution if you will – by which the key that unlocks the shackles becomes the instrument of an impenetrable door. Unbound by gift, enclosed by design.
